When I was little my grandmother would always stress to me the importance of not overeating. She would tell me that one of the things we can do to ensure this is to not let yourself get too hungry, and when we did eat that we should chew our food twenty times. That insures it is ready to be digested properly and also it will take longer for you to eat your meal and you will probably realize your full before your finished. Boy do I wish I had listened to that little gem of advice!

Over eating, I believe is my biggest problem. Well, that and emotional eating. I will let myself get too hungry and devour food before I have even really tasted it. I celebrate with food and when i am down I feel I deserve something that will perk me up. Does it perk me up? For like a second! As I have researched this topic online I have come up with a few tips that I believe if I can stick to will help me.

  1. Do not deprive yourself. No really. Eat what you want. Just eat a little of it.
  2. Stop eating when you feel full. Not when your stuffed….full. If you really pay attention you will be seriously surprised that you are full a lot faster than you thought you would be. For me it was after a few bites. I was shocked.
  3. Dont eat things that don’t taste good to you. If you start eating something and it isn’t as awesome as you thought it would be, stop eating it. A lot of the time, if you pay attention that piece of chocolate cake you were craving just doesn’t taste that awesome after the third bite. That is because you have satisfied your craving and your body is good, so stop.
  4. Drink water. A lot of times when we think we are hungry we are actually just needing a little H2O. Our bodies need this to flush out all of the toxins in our body and to help it function properly.

It’s amazing that if we just take the time to pay attention to what our bodies are telling us how much better off we will be.
